Knitting Pattern: Mishka Slouch Hat

I get asked quite often to knit things for people or do commissions and honestly, I'm not that fond of doing that. I like knitting to be fun and leisurely. But when my hair stylist, Michelle, asked me to make her a slouchy hat, I was SO stoked. This was going to be fun! (And it totally was!)

Bourbon Vanilla Stone Fruit Jam

We love fruit at our house. All summer and fall I can't resist the baskets and bushels of fruit I see at the market. But with only two of us in the house sometimes we can't finish up the basket before the fruit starts to go soft.

It's the new year and about the time I always start to think about all the things I want to do this year. Not resolutions, just goals really and they seem to always develop into lists quite quickly.

Summer Eats: Fresh Tomato Basil Rosé Sauce

It's that time of year when the counter is covered with tomatoes and I start to think "We need to grow less next year." But of course, we never do and every year when the tomatoes are finally all gone, we go into a state of mourning for those sweet, juicy fruits that we won't taste again until July. But until that happens, its tomatoes with every meal!

Five Perfect Cookies

Sometimes, you find a cookie recipe and you make it and it is just not what you were looking for. I'll go through a lot of recipes before I find one I'm even willing to try. For me, a perfect cookie should be soft. Crunchy cookies are not my thing. The recipe also needs to be simple and quick. I'm not into chilling things over night or 3 step processes or even hauling out the table mixer. When I am looking for a cookie recipe its usually because I want a cookie... so I'm not messing around.

I have five cookie recipes that are perfect (in my opinion.) I've made them all many many, many times, with the exception of the ginger cookie recipe which I just made for the first time. (BUT it really is perfect, so I feel confident in including it.) Some of them predate internet recipes, LOL, so I have included picture of the recipes from my recipe book (stains and all).

A Little Catch Up

We've been a bit absent as of late. We have had a hectic few weeks and some stress, but things are starting to mellow out. So, here are a few snap shots of some of the awesome things that have been happening around here.

Is It Very Dear?: Summer Thrifting Begins

The Summer is a great time for thrifting. People like to clean out their basement and garages and have yard sales. They also throw away a lot of good things at the dump or leave them by the roadside.  Craig's List and Kijiji fill up with free and reasonable listings for summer items like patio furniture and flower pots because people are buying new ones.

This week I stopped by Salvation Army on my lunch break one day because it was pouring rain and I could not do my usual walk. I'm glad that I did!
